NEW RELEASE - BIC RUNGA - 'IT'S LIKE SUMMERTIME'
New Zealand music icon Bic Runga (Ngāti Kahungunu) today releases the brand new single 'It's Like Summertime', a song that embodies a sense of nostalgia and comfort, recalling a carefree past while also imagining a hopeful future.
Bic's gift has always been her ability to turn personal truths into shared experiences, inviting listeners into her gentle, thoughtful, and beautifully human world and her return with this single is no different.
Bic says “I wanted to offer comfort in a time where everyone needs it. The world feels so different now and familiarity provides care and love.”
'It's Like Summertime', written and produced by Bic Runga and Kody Nielson, is off her upcoming “Red Sunset” album due for release in 2026, her first full original album since the release of Belle in 2011.
Recently Bic joined Neil Finn and Roundhead Studios as part of their midwinter pick-me-up: 10 nights of music and mirth designed to MUFGAL (Make Us Feel Good About Life), and performed with the Auckland Philharmonia in an evening of beloved classics in an unforgettable evening of music memories, reimagined together with the power of a full orchestra.
A multi-Tūī and Silver Scroll award winning artist, and the youngest inductee into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame, Bic's influence can be heard in a new generation of New Zealand musicians who grew up with her songs on the radio and saw in her a model of artistic independence.
In 2026, she will return with her brand new album “Red Sunset,” recorded in Paris in the winter of 2025.
